March 16, 2026

Oliver Weetch, leading Ellie Sheahan, prosecuted three defendants for possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and attempted grievous bodily harm arising from a shotgun shooting in Crays Hill, Essex.

The trial involved evidence relating to a series of offences over a month-long period starting with a burglary in which shotguns were stolen, a further burglary in which the car used in the shooting was stolen, and culminating with the shooting itself.

The investigation, known as Operation Cricket, was run by the Serious & Organised Crime Unit within Essex Police.

The trial itself, which lasted four weeks, involved the presentation of a large volume of complex interconnected evidence including expert cell-site and ballistics material, ANPR and CCTV material, phone messaging using different social media platforms, as well as prison phone call evidence.

At the end of the recently concluded trial, all three defendants were unanimously found guilty by the jury of all counts they faced.

Oliver and Ellie were instructed by the CPS, East of England unit.
