Oliver Weetch and Matthew Parris conclude three-handed Abbey Road Uzi sub-machine gun case.
Oliver Weetch led Matthew Parris in a three-handed three-week prosecution trial at Southwark Crown Court which concluded in November last year with all three defendants being convicted of possessing firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
The case, known as Operation Lullpear and investigated by Trident, concerned a shooting on Abbey Rd in London in September 2024 when three shots were fired towards the occupants of another vehicle by the group of defendants using an Uzi sub-machine gun, followed by the police finding the same weapon alongside two XD-9 loaded handguns, a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition at the home address of two of the defendants in November 2024. The prosecution’s case was that all three defendants were in joint possession of all the weapons and ammunition with intent to endanger life arising from their involvement in, or connection to, the shooting on Abbey Rd and on the basis that the weapons found later represented a pool or stash of weapons available to each of them. In order to prove the case, multiple experts were called at the trial relating to cell-site evidence, DNA and ballistics alongside detailed CCTV evidence.
On Friday 8th May, the three defendants were sentenced to 19yrs [as part of an extended sentence], 15yrs 6 months and 14 years 6 months respectively.
