John Lloyd-Richards led Laura Hollingbery for the Crown in prosecuting a gang who, between August 2021 and February 2022 targeted commercial properties including Public Houses, branches of the Co-Op, Tesco Express and One Stop shops with cash, alcohol and cigarettes the primary targets. The following sentences were handed down at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 1st July 2025:
- Gavin Reilly was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary and theft of vehicles;
- Craig Booth was sentenced to 10 years and six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to rob, burglary and theft of vehicles;
- Stephen Hall was sentenced to 15 years and eight months’ imprisonment for burglary and robbery;
- Jason Hall was sentenced to nine years and eight months’ imprisonment for armed robbery;
- Carlton Betts was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to steal vehicles and burglary; and
- Paul Bagnall was sentenced to two years and three months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to steal vehicles.
At the sentencing hearing HHJ Gosling commented: ‘The prosecution resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of six members of an organised gang. The leading players were professional and utterly ruthless. They terrorised numerous staff members and customers in small local businesses and caused misery and hardship to the victims. They were forensically aware, so assembling the evidence against them, from numerous sources because identification at the scene was impossible, took, I have no doubt, thousands of hours of detective work and resources. I commend this outstanding police work to the Chief Constable of the West Midlands.’
