Grace Ong, leading Marie De Redman of Goldsmith Chambers, secured two attempted murder convictions at the Central Criminal Court on Friday 23rd February.  The trial involved deaf witnesses, including the complainant, four prosecution witnesses, and the defendant, and six BSL interpreters were engaged during the course of the trial.  The defendant, Harry Owusu-Manu, set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s flat on the 16th floor of a tower block in Battersea leaving her trapped inside with her young baby.  He was found to be obsessed with her after a short relationship which she ended and also created fake social media accounts which were religiously offensive.   Sentencing will take place on 22nd April 2024.
