Simon Taplin, 64, from Lavant, was sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment on 3 June 2024 at Portsmouth Crown Court.  He had previously been found guilty of two counts of indecent assault of a girl under 16 back in February of this year, and was acquitted of five further counts.

The first incident occurred in 1996 when the victim was in her teens and met the defendant at the cadets.  The abuse continued over the next four years.  As part of the investigation in to this offence, a second victim came forward and disclosed she was abused at a cadet event around the same time.

The defendant will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
