Exceptional criminal KC joins 2KBW
2KBW is delighted to welcome leading criminal law barrister Cairns Nelson KC as a door tenant.
A tenant at 23ES, Cairns was called to the Bar in 1987. Prior to taking Silk in 2010, he was appointed Standing Counsel to HMRC 2006-2010 and began sitting as a Recorder in 2006. He has specialised in financial crime for many years, defending and prosecuting a full range of major complex fraud and money laundering cases. Cairns appears as Leading Silk in the Legal 500 2024 edition. Chambers and Partners describe Cairns as “a man of great authority. When he stands up to speak you can hear a pin drop”.
Cairns enjoys a heavyweight practice, defending and prosecuting high profile organised crime or gang related murders. His financial and corporate crime practice has seen him act in serious tax and pension fraud trials. Cairns prosecutes for Trading Standards in publishing fraud and energy fraud scams and he advises Jersey advocates on money laundering cases often involving allegations of laundering proceeds of alleged UK tax evasion. He is advising and representing a Premier League Football Club in the early stages of a tax investigation.
