Child rapist receives Extended Sentence of 25 years following conviction at trial. Steve Molloy prosecuting for the Crown.
Andrew SPEERS (54) was convicted by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court of raping a vulnerable seven year old girl “on at least two occasions”. Following the Guilty verdicts after a five day trial that concluded on 7th March 2025, SPEERS was sentenced on 10th July 2025.
The Court heard that Speers had pleaded Guilty to three offences of Making Indecent Photographs of Children, which included images in all three categories, including the most serious. His internet search terms indicated a wide variety of perversions involving children of both sexes.
Speers denied raping the girl in 2021 when she was aged around seven years. She had reported the offences when she was eleven years of age.
Sentencing Speers, His Honour Judge Bond noted the “revulsion” felt by society for offences of this nature and said that he had no doubt that SPEERS was “sexually attracted to prepubescent children”. He said that SPEERS had shown no remorse.
After determining that Speers was “dangerous”, Judge Bond sentenced him to a 25 year Extended Sentence of Imprisonment, comprising a 20 year custodial period and a five year extended licence. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and Restraining Order.
