Michael Williams prosecutes men running gun factory in London
Michael Williams prosecuted a trial at Woolwich Crown Court in which the defendants were charged with operating a gun factory from a flat in south east London. They were convicted and sentenced to a total of 28 years.
Police searched the address and discovered heavy machinery, which was being used to convert and adapt firearms within the flat. A shotgun was discovered, which had been shortened and ammunition for it was found nearby. Two rifles and seven pistols in varying stages of construction, together with multiple rounds of live ammuniton, were also found. The two defendants had obtained deactivated firearms and were using specialist skills to reactivate them. They were convicted on all counts, including possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
In passing sentence on 13th July 2016, HHJ Hehir described it as a sophisticated firearms operation whose aim was to supply weapons that would allow murderers, gang members, rapists and even terrorists to kill, maim and terrify. The two defendants were sentenced to a total of 28 years imprisonment.
