Southampton mother and son jailed over wedding money plot – Shona Probert prosecuted for the Crown
Kalwant Kaur, 41, and her son, Jung Singh Lankanpal, 22, were jailed at Southampton Crown Court on 22nd December 2023 for conspiring to steal £8000 that was collected for a wedding. Lankanpal burst into the address where the money was being counted and took it. Kaur was one of the women present at the time and attempted to present herself as a witness to the crime, but the getaway car was traced to Kaur, leading to the pair’s arrests.
Kaur pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle and received 18 months imprisonment. Lankanpal was jailed for 30 months for the same offence, and he also admitted possession of an imitation firearm.
