Overview
Michael Cogan was called to the Bar in 1986 and has substantial experience in crime, particularly in the field of white-collar crime, and in family work, where he acts exclusively for parents in public law cases.
Michael was, until 2020 head of chambers at Article 6 chambers. Having closed down the set due to Covid, he joined 2kbw as a tenant.
Crime
Michael only defends in criminal cases and has represented clients in high-profile cases, most notably in cases such as R v David Justice, a case involving alleged bribery and corruption, which was the first example of a prosecution arising out of a deferred prosecution agreement.
Family
Michael’s main area of practice lies in the public law field, where he regularly acts in care proceedings in all levels of court. He has a particular interest in non-accidental injuries to children, and fact-finding hearings.
