21.5 years’ imprisonment for dangerous offender who held partner captive and subjected her to nine-hour campaign of abuse

June 13, 2025

In February 2025, Tommy Hitt carried out a prolonged assault of serious and sexual violence against his partner. This included burning her with a blowtorch, sexually assaulting her, stamping on her head which fractured her eye socket and caused retinal detachment, threatening to burn the eyes out of her head and kill her.

The Defendant received an extended sentence of 21.5 years’ imprisonment, the sentencing judge finding that he represented an ongoing risk to society and to members of the public.

Sentencing the Defendant today at Winchester Crown Court, HHJ Dugdale described the offences as using an ‘inexplicable level of violence’ in a ‘horrific attack’ lasting for over 9 hours.

Matilda was instructed by the Wessex RASSO unit.
