Overview
Richard is a Grade 4 prosecutor, is on the CPS RASSO list and is instructed in cases across the South Eastern and Western Circuits. He is regularly instructed by CPS London Complex Casework Unit as leading counsel for the Special Casework and Homicide Team.
Richard has a defence practice at a similar level and has been instructed in a number of murder cases as a led junior and as a junior alone, he has conducted numerous cases involving serious crime and serious sexual assault.
He also has an extensive disciplinary and regulatory practice that encompasses proceedings in the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council, the General Chiropractic Council, the General Optical Council, and also in Police Disciplinary proceedings.
Financial & corporate crime
Richard’s reputation ensures him a steady flow of significant cases involving money laundering and banking, as well as frauds on HMRC, both leading and alone. He has particular expertise in the fields of restraint and confiscation proceedings.
Previous experience includes a 2 year secondment to what was then the Financial Services Authority (now the Financial Conduct Authority), where he prepared and presented cases on their behalf.
He appeared in the leading Court of Appeal case of R v Da Silva 2 Cr. App. R. 35 concerning the meaning of suspicion in money laundering offences.
Sexual offences
Richard has a wide-ranging experience of both defending and prosecuting in all allegations of sexual wrongdoing with an extensive number of high profile cases. He is a specialist RASSO prosecutor on both the Western and South East Circuits.
